25kDa inhibitor of actin polymerization (25 kDa IAP)

Page updated 7th March '04

The presence of this protein in preparations of the ABP vinculin caused confusion.  Vinculin was at first identified as an ABP, but then it was discovered that a 25kDa inhibitor of actin polymerization was subsequently found (Miron et al, 1991).  Now it appears that actually vinculin is an ABP, but that the actin binding is masked by the folding of the molecule in a similar manner to the ERM family.
