UNC-87

A Caenorhabditis elegans actin bundling protein from the body wall muscle (Kranewitter et al, 2001).  The organization of the gene is odd in that it contains 7 calponin repeats but not that part of calponin that binds actin and is found in other ABPs, a-actinin, dystrophin and spectrin.  The bundles are tight resembling that formed by fascin.  A similar gene has been identified in another nematode, Oncocerca volvulus (Irvine et al, 1994).
